General Monthly Meeting Minutes for February 20, 2024

Meeting Location –

Motohio European Motorbikes, 5636 Scarborough Blvd, Columbus, OH, 43232.

Members in Attendance – (9)

Attending the November meeting were Mike Allen (President), Larry Laskorski (Secretary), Henning Carlsen (Treasurer), Rich McCoy (Activities), Joshua Casto (Membership), Al Holtsberry, Paul Zelenak, Tom Andrejcak, and Jonathan Bickel.  Paul Zelenak’s daughter Morgan attended as a guest.

Call to Order –

Mike Allen called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M as the refreshments had arrived at 7:00 PM, and everyone had finished eating.  As a result, the members in attendance agreed to start the meeting early.

Secretary’s report –

Larry Laskorski read the minutes of the meeting held on November 21, 2023.  Joshua Casto moved to accept the minutes, as written, and that they be entered into the organization’s records.  Al Holtsberry seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was approved. 

Treasurer's report –

Henning Carlsen provided a short financial report that indicated the treasury balance and that the club is solvent.  He noted that the club paid a total of $333.84 towards the Annual Banquet.  This amount represents the net difference between the gross cost of the banquet and the attendance fees paid by participating club members, associate members, and guests.

Mike Allen moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report, as provided, and that it be entered into the organization’s records.  Larry Laskorski seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was approved.  Should any members not attending this meeting need information on the current financial position of the club, please reach out to Henning.

Membership report – 

Joshua reported that the club has 51 members and 6 associate members.  He stated that he will reconcile the active member listing with the paid dues received by Henning.  Upon completion of this process, Joshua will contact all members which have not sent in their 2024 dues payment.

Rich McCoy moved to accept the Membership Report and that they be entered into the organization’s records.  Paul Zelenak seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was approved. 

Activities Report –

Rich McCoy reported that he has updated the club website for the addition of new member names and a photo.  He has also updated the calendar for near term activities (Monthly meetings/rides, breakfasts, etc.).

Planned rides –

• July 12 to 14 – New River Gorge, Fayetteville, WV – (details to be distributed).

  • Considering inviting the members of the Cincinnati club to participate

• Monthly rides on Sunday

• Possible scheduling some weekday rides

 Rallies – (details to be distributed)

• April 26th to 28th – Ohio BMW RA Spring Camp out

• May 3rd to 5th - BMW MOA Georgia Mountain Rally

• June 13th to 15th - BMW National Rally, Redmond, Oregon

Mike Allen moved to accept the Activities Report, as presented, and that it be entered into the organization’s records.  Tom Andrejcak seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was approved. 

Old business – 

Annual Banquet – 35 people attended.  A discussion was held regarding the fact that some possible attendees did not participate because of the banquet room being on the second floor of the restaurant and that they would have difficulty navigating the stairs.  Some members thought that Schmidt’s might have a elevator/chair lift to access the upper floor.  This question will be researched more fully prior to the determination of the location for next year’s annual banquet.

Club charitable contribution – to be determined at a future meeting.

Old Facebook site – Mike Allen and Joshua Casto will work together to see if they can get this account closed.

New business –

• BDR Film Presentation – Friday, February 23rd at BMW Motorcycles of Greater Cincinnati.  Food, Refreshments, Giveaways, Speakers, discounts.

  • 5:30 PM – Doors to open

  • 6:30 PM – Speakers

  • 7:00 PM – Film presentation – California North BDR

• Wednesday Dinner Ride schedule is being prepared and will be posted to Motohio’s website soon.

• Track day – Mike had scheduled Nate Kern to participate in a Track Day at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Monday, May 20th.  Details will be posted on Motohio’s website.

• Vintage Days – Mike is attempting to put together vintage drag races at National Trails Raceway the Wednesday before Vintage days as Mid-Ohio.

• Moto America Race at Mid-Ohio – Mike is arranging for the BMW Demo Truck to be at Mid-Ohio for the Moto America Superbike races to be held August 16th to 18th.

• Waylin Wayne – September 4th to 8th.  Motohio will be raffling off a BMW 310GS.

 Questions raised – None.

Adjournment –

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mike Allen at 8:12PM which was seconded by Josua Casto.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was approved.  The meeting was then adjourned.
