General Monthly Meeting Minutes for February 21, 2023

Meeting Location –

La Matraca Mexican Restaurant, 5000 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, OH, 43110. 

Members in Attendance –

Attending the February meeting were Mike Allen (President), Henning Carlsen (Treasurer), Larry Laskorski (Secretary), Rich McCoy (Activities), Al Holtsberry and Steve Wolf. 

Call to Order –

Mike Allen called the meeting to order at 7:56 P.M. 

Secretary’s report –

Larry Laskorski read the minutes of the November 15, 2022, meeting.  No meetings were held for the months of December and January.  The club banquet was held on January 28, 2023.  Mike Allen moved to accept the minutes, as written, and that they be entered into the organization’s records.  Henning Carlsen seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was carried.  

Treasurer's report –

Henning Carlsen provided a short financial report that indicated the treasury balance and that the club is solvent.  Larry Laskorski moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report, as provided, and that it be entered into the organization’s records.  Al Holtsberry seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was carried.  Should any members not in attendance for the meeting need information on the current financial position of the club, please reach out to Henning. 

Membership report – 

Mike Allen advised the members in attendance that Cory Samuell has moved out of state and has resigned from his position as Membership Director.  The Directors and members in attendance wish Cory well in his move and thank him for filling this role for approximately the past eighteen months. 

Mike stated that he is now searching for someone to fill the role of Membership Director.  The members in attendance compared the membership list from the website against the membership renewal payments received by Henning Carlsen.  After review it was determined that the club currently has 34 active paid members.  Mike Allen stated that he would contact those members that have not yet renewed their membership to see if they would like to continue to be a member of the club.  Any members who have not renewed their membership are asked to do so and mail their dues payment to Henning Carlsen, 5405 Infinity Court, Grove City, OH, 43123. 

Rich McCoy moved to accept the Membership Report as provided, and that it be entered into the organization’s records.  Al Holtsberry seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was carried.  

Activities Report –

Rich stated that Al Holtsberry and he had been discussing some of the club’s past contests wherein club members would

Keep track and submit photos of scenic sites with their bike.  Some of the contest names/descriptions to be considered would be: 

·         Gimme Shelter – picnic shelters.

·         No Gas – old/abandoned gas stations.

·         No Classes Today – abandoned school buildings.

·         No Vacancy – abandoned hotels.

·         No worshipping here - abandoned or repurposed churches,

·         Covered Bridges 

Rich will develop the details of each contest for distribution to the membership with the goal of all submissions being received prior to the November meeting to provide Rich with the time to review and tabulate all submissions by category.  Rich is currently developing some activities for the upcoming year.  He has also populated some activities on the club’s website. 

Mike Allen moved to accept  the Membership Report,  as presented, and that it be entered into the organization’s records.  Cory Samuell seconded the motion.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was carried.  

Old business - 

The active member page on the club’s website has been updated.  Rich McCoy’s information as Activities Director has also been added to the website. 

In past meetings, Mike has requested that members submit their interesting ride stories and pictures to be posted on the club website.  Rich McCoy advised the members in attendance that he has posted a story on the website in addition to Al Holtsberry’s Africa trip.  Mike reiterated his challenge to all members to submit and post a story on the website. 

New business –

With the resignation of Cory Samuell as Membership Director, the club is now seeking his replacement.  Any members interested in filling this role should contact Mike Allen.  Mike stated that he has updated the club’s Facebook page with this information. 

In addition to being Membership Director, Cory also functioned as the webmaster for the club’s website.  Any members interested in filling this role should contact Mike Allen. 

As stated in previous meetings, Mike Allen will pay the first year’s membership dues for anyone that purchases a new BMW motorcycle from Motohio and expresses an interest t0 be involved with the club.  He and Henning Carlsen agreed that, in an attempt to cut down on the time devoted to administrative activities, Mike would provide Henning with the new member’s information when they purchase their new BMW motorcycle.  Mike would then forward all dues for those members added each quarter in one payment at the end of the quarter rather than having to send multiple checks to be deposited during the quarter. 

Rich suggested that in an attempt to increase awareness of the club and attract new members that we could purchase some business cards with the club’s name and website information to provide a BMW rider that might express interest in joining the club.  Rich volunteered to head up this initiative.

The next regularly scheduled club meeting will be, Tuesday, March 21st.  Location:  Paddock Pub, 1005 Richardson Rd., Groveport, OH, 43125 

Adjournment –

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mike Allen at 8:42 PM which was seconded by Rich McCoy.  All members in attendance voted in favor, with no objections, and the motion was carried.  Meeting was adjourned.
